Specify the governing standard and grade before selecting the wall thickness, ends, testing and delivery documents.

For seamless carbon steel pipe specified to ASTM A106/A106M, see ASTM A106 Grade B and Grade C pipe. For line pipe specified to API 5L, compare the grade and PSL requirements on the API 5L seamless line pipe page. These specifications are not interchangeable solely because the pipe dimensions match.

Ordering SCH 40 or SCH 80? Use the steel pipe schedule chart to identify nominal wall thickness, then confirm the exact OD, grade, manufacturing condition and inspection requirements in the quotation. Size tables are dimensional references, not a statement of stock availability or pressure rating.

Standards and grades are not interchangeable. Confirm the exact standard, grade and product form on the purchase order; low-temperature ASTM A333 requirements follow the separate low-temperature product route.

End Finishing:

Bevelled Ends: Precisely machined to 30° (+5°/-0°) with a 1.6mm root face (ANSI B16.25).

Plain Ends: Square cut and deburred for high-pressure socket welding.

Threaded Ends: According to API 5B/ASTM for mechanical coupling.

Surface Mitigation:

Anti-Corrosion Coating: 3PE/3LPE, 3PP/3LPP or FBE (Fusion Bonded Epoxy), with the coating-specific standard and edition agreed in the purchase order. DIN 30670-1 applies to polyethylene coatings, not as a common standard for all three systems.

Atmospheric Protection: Black varnish, clear oiling, or hot-dipped galvanizing (HDG) for severe environments.

Quality Assurance (QA/QC) & Traceability

Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): UT, ET or MPI method, coverage and acceptance criteria depend on the applicable standard, product and inspection plan.

Hydrostatic Analysis: Hydrostatic testing or a permitted alternative is specified according to the product standard and purchase order.

Documentation: Fully traceable Mill Test Certificates (MTC) issued according to EN 10204 3.1 (3.2 subject to the agreed certification and inspection route).

Third-Party Inspection (TPI): Full cooperation with SGS, BV, TUV, DNV, or ABS.

6. Inspection and testing: hydrostatic test, UT, ET, MT, impact test, PMI, hardness or project ITP requirements.
