Shortlist coated steel line pipe sources by five items: the producing mill, pipe specification, coating applicator, coating system and inspection records. Ask each bidder to name these in the quotation so you can compare the same supply scope.
The ten options below cover steel pipe manufacturers and coating-service providers. Forever Steel is a China-based manufacturer with its own steel pipe factory and a supporting anti-corrosion coating plant, providing coated steel pipe and related processing for customers. The comparison focuses on pipe route, coating scope, inspection and delivery requirements.
For 3PE coated steel pipe or FBE coated steel pipe, state the coating system, cutbacks and required inspection records in the RFQ.
Use the published scope to screen candidates, then request the mill, coating location and size range for your pipe schedule. The company pages and project announcements are linked under References & Sources.

Forever Steel |
Own steel pipe factory with a supporting anti-corrosion coating plant |
Approve the base pipe and coating separately. The pipe must meet the ordered grade, route, dimensions and delivery condition. The coating must meet its own system, application and inspection requirements.
The seller may own the coating plant, use an external applicator or coordinate both through a supplier. Name the mill and applicator, and assign responsibility for transport damage, rejected coating and repairs in the order.
|
Sourcing route |
What the buyer should establish |
Evidence to request |
|
Mill and coating operation under one group |
The exact facilities proposed for the order |
Mill identification, coating facility and inspection plan |
|
Mill with an external applicator |
Responsibility for transport, inspection and coating damage |
Applicator approval and handover records |
|
Supplier coordinating project supply |
Visibility of the actual mill and applicator |
Source confirmation, traceability plan and document schedule |
For a project that has not yet fixed the manufacturing route, compare LSAW and SSAW against the project requirements before requesting coating quotations. The coating system should follow the selected pipe and installation requirements, rather than determine them by itself.
External corrosion coatings, internal linings, internal flow coatings and concrete weight coatings serve different purposes. A 3LPE or 3PE system uses an FBE epoxy primer, an adhesive and a polyethylene topcoat; 3LPP uses a polypropylene topcoat.
State which surfaces are coated and the function of each system. An internal flow-coating offer is not a substitute for the specified external corrosion protection.

Coating description |
Procurement question |
Information the RFQ should contain |
|
3LPE or 3PE |
Is this the specified external corrosion-protection system? |
Standard and edition, layer requirements, thickness and cutbacks |
|
3LPP |
Has the system been selected for the actual service conditions? |
Operating/design conditions and project coating specification |
|
FBE or dual-layer FBE |
What does each layer need to achieve? |
System designation, qualification and applicable production tests |
|
Internal lining or flow coating |
Is the purpose corrosion protection, fluid compatibility or flow performance? |
Medium, service conditions, lining product and acceptance criteria |
|
Concrete weight coating |
What weight and project installation requirements apply? |
Density, thickness, reinforcement and applicable inspection requirements |
Do not select a universal temperature limit or coating thickness from a general article. Those values depend on the specified system and project requirements. Use the 3LPE versus 3LPP selection guide to organize questions for the project engineer, then put the approved requirements in the RFQ.
|
Document and timing |
What to identify |
What the buyer checks |
|
Coating procedure and qualification records before production |
Applicator, system, procedure revision and required qualification scope |
Approval covers the offered material combination, facility and pipe range |
|
Coating material batch records before application |
Primer, adhesive and topcoat or FBE powder batches, as applicable |
Products match the approved system; shelf life and storage requirements are addressed |
|
ITP and production inspection records |
Surface preparation, thickness, adhesion and holiday testing where specified |
Method, frequency, acceptance reference, result and covered pipe IDs |
|
Repair and reinspection records before release |
Pipe ID, repair position, material, method and retest |
Repairs are permitted and the required reinspection is complete |
|
Final tally and release documents before shipment |
Pipe IDs, quantities, coating status and open exceptions |
Released items match the packing list and loading records |
See the coating inspection checklist before shipment for the next level of review.
Before release, select one pipe from the tally and follow its ID to the base-pipe MTC and the applicable coating records. Ask for a correction if the record names another pipe, omits the inspected population or leaves a repair open.
Compare the same priced scope: base pipe, coating, required tests, third-party inspection, packing, inland transport and delivery term. Record exclusions and who will supply or pay for them.
For example, a quote for coated pipe delivered to port cannot be compared directly with bare pipe delivered to an applicator. Add the missing coating, testing and transport costs before comparing totals.
Specify lifting arrangements, support and separation, coating repair responsibility and inspection at dispatch and receipt. Refer to coated pipe transport protection when preparing those requirements. A coating accepted at the plant still needs protection through loading, transport and storage.
1. Pipe standard and edition, grade and manufacturing route
2. Dimensions, wall thickness, length and quantity
3. Coating specification: system, thickness, cutbacks and internal lining or flow coating where needed
4. Service and installation conditions
5. Required MTC type, coating procedure or qualification records, ITP, inspection reports and final tally
6. Approved-mill or approved-applicator restrictions
7. Destination, delivery term, packing and handling requirements
No single manufacturer is best for every specification. Shortlist sources whose proposed facility can meet the pipe dimensions, grade, coating system, inspection requirements and delivery schedule. Approve the order against documented scope and evidence, not a generic top-ten position.
It is steel line pipe that receives a plant-applied protective system. External coatings such as 3LPE, 3LPP or FBE protect the outside surface, while internal linings or flow coatings address the fluid and flow side.
FBE is an epoxy coating system. 3LPE builds on an FBE epoxy primer with an adhesive layer and a polyethylene topcoat. Which one fits depends on the project coating specification, so state the required system and standard in the RFQ.
No. Some manufacturers coat in their own plants, some use strategic or external applicators, and some suppliers coordinate both. Tenaris, for example, describes both its own system and strategic suppliers. Ask for the named mill and applicator for your order.
Yes, if the project permits that arrangement and the applicator, inspection plan, traceability and responsibilities are agreed. The buyer needs visibility of the coating operation and its records, regardless of whether it belongs to the pipe manufacturer.
No. Base pipe conformity and coating conformity are separate checks. Request the applicable pipe documentation and the specified coating inspection package. Do not treat a pipe specification or company certificate as a replacement for order-specific coating evidence.
Include the pipe standard and edition, grade, manufacturing route, dimensions, quantity, coating specification, service and installation conditions, cutbacks, inspection documents, destination and delivery requirement. Identify any approved-mill or approved-applicator restriction at the outset.
Where the contract requires them, ask for thickness, adhesion, holiday testing and repair records, each with method, acceptance criteria and result, linked to the actual pipe identifiers or inspection units.
Compare on identical scope: bare pipe, coating, testing, third-party inspection, packing, inland transport and delivery term. Mark every exclusion, then compare total agreed scope and handover risk rather than price per tonne alone.
Send Forever Steel the pipe schedule, coating specification and processing requirements together. Request a quotation covering pipe manufacturing, anti-corrosion coating, cutbacks, inspection, packing and delivery, with exclusions stated separately.
